The Context

Pudgy Rods, aka “rogs”, (previously “Pudgy Presents”), were released as a free-to-claim NFT on August 30th, 2021, by the original Pudgy Penguins team, one for each Pudgy Penguin held.

They were released as eggs wrapped in red ribbons, and their contents were kept as a surprise. After four months of extreme anticipation, on Christmas Day, the presents were revealed: the eggs contained fishing rods.

Not only were they fishing rods, but the developers misspelled the "rods" as "rogs". The community rioted, and everyone's Christmas was ruined. Since then, the Pudgy Rods have developed a tight-knit community and lived on as the greatest meme in Web3, and today, we enter a new era.

The Power of the Rog

The Pudgy Rods have developed a layer of utility and will serve as a multiplier for certain licensing deals, on-chain drops, or claims we may do in the future.

A big part of our vision is focused on supporting Pudgy Penguins and Lil Pudgys, and now Pudgy Rods will amplify what your Penguins can catch. When paired with a Big Pudgy or a Lil Pudgy, the Rod’s true power will come into effect.

This utility's first implementation will be in Q2 with project Overpass 📃.

The Structure

When calculating a multiplier, we account for rarity and distributions. The multiplier works for combinations of Rods + Big Pudgys + Lil Pudgys. The multiplier will change based on the initiative, and some on-chain drops, such as SBTs, will not have the multiplier effect. An example of a potential multiplier would be a Rare Rog paired with a Big or Lil amplifying a licensing deal royalty by 1.8x, but an Epic Rog amplifying it by 3x!

In the end, the Rogs symbolize what Web3 is really about... community. From the lore to the memes, the Rogs will continue to stand the test of time and hold a special place in our hearts, as the greatest meme in Web3.
